Key Takeaways
Winter is one of the best times to skydive in Florida, with lower humidity and fewer afternoon thunderstorms. Skydive Palm Beach offers year-round tandem skydiving near West Palm Beach. Learn how to fit a skydive into your South Florida vacation with driving times, booking tips, clothing guidance, and weather rescheduling policies.

South Florida’s dry season runs roughly October through April, making winter months some of the best months to skydive in Florida. Florida winters bring lower humidity, clearer skies, and fewer afternoon thunderstorms than summer. Located in Pahokee – about an hour west of West Palm Beach, near Lake Okeechobee – Skydive Palm Beach is open year-round.

If you’re looking for things to do in West Palm Beach in winter, a tandem skydive is worth adding to your itinerary. This article covers how to fit skydiving into your Florida vacation, from planning your drive and booking ahead to knowing what to wear and allowing time for weather delays.

Why Winter is the “Good Season” Here

What is South Florida like in the winter? South Florida typically transitions into its dry season during October, with drier conditions continuing through spring. Lower humidity, milder temperatures, and fewer afternoon thunderstorms make this a comfortable time of year for outdoor adventures.

For skydiving, that means a welcome break from summer’s heat and frequent afternoon storms. Clear winter days offer sweeping views of Lake Okeechobee and the surrounding South Florida landscape, with cooler air making the experience more comfortable on the ground.

The dry season gives you plenty of reasons to plan a jump, but it’s always smart to leave some flexibility in your itinerary, as we can still sometimes run into weather delays.

Where We Are, Relative to Where You’re Staying

Skydive Palm Beach is located at Palm Beach County Glades Airport in Pahokee. It’s an inland drive from the coast, but we’re within reach of many popular South Florida vacation destinations.

Approximate driving times include:

  • West Palm Beach: 45 minutes
  • Fort Lauderdale: 1 hour
  • Port St. Lucie: 1 hour
  • Boca Raton: 1 hour 15 minutes
  • Miami: 1 hour 30 minutes
  • Vero Beach: 1 hour 40 minutes
  • Fort Myers: 2 hours

Travel times vary depending on where you’re staying and traffic, so check directions from your accommodation before scheduling your jump.

Fitting a Skydive into a Vacation Day

We offer appointment times throughout the day so you can choose what works best for your schedule. On a typical day, individuals and groups of two are likely to spend about an hour with us; groups of three or four around 90 minutes; and groups of five or six about two hours.

Add your drive in both directions when planning your outing and leave a buffer before anything scheduled afterward. Weather and operational delays can extend your visit, so avoid fitting your jump immediately before a flight, cruise departure, or another reservation you can’t move.

If you’d like to make a day of it, leave time to explore the Lake Okeechobee area or enjoy a relaxed lunch after your jump. Your skydive can be the main event without being your only adventure.

Booking a Skydive During Peak Season

Skydiving in Florida during winter is especially popular, and it’s our busiest season. Reservations are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so booking early gives you more choice of dates and appointment times.

We recommend reserving as soon as your travel plans are firm, especially for weekends, groups, or a limited vacation window. Last-minute openings may still be available, so give us a call if you’re already in town.

Our biggest tip is to book your skydive early in your vacation. Skydiving is weather-dependent year-round, and an earlier appointment gives you another day to jump if conditions don’t cooperate on your original date.

Rescheduling is free with at least 24 hours’ notice, or if weather prevents your jump. Deposits are normally nonrefundable, and weather cancellations receive a rain check valid for 24 months.

However, if you’re visiting for a limited time and cannot return before leaving, we can sometimes process a weather-related refund as an exception. Contact us before booking if you have a fixed travel window so we can explain the policy.

What Winter Weather Actually Means

Is it going to be a cold winter in Florida in 2026? Winters in South Florida are generally mild, but cooler mornings and passing cold fronts can still call for an extra layer.

Dress for the temperature on the ground and bring a lightweight layer you can add if needed. Wear comfortable, close-fitting clothing and securely fastened, closed-toe athletic shoes.

Temperatures at jump altitude can be about 30-40°F cooler than on the ground. You won’t spend your whole visit up there, but a long-sleeved shirt or an extra layer can make a difference on a cooler day, especially if you get chilly easily.

Check the forecast before heading out and bring a couple of options so you can adjust to the day’s conditions.

Snowbirds and Seasonal Residents

Staying for the season gives you more opportunities to choose a weekday appointment and work around the weather. You can plan your jump away from busy weekends or make it part of the itinerary when friends and family visit.

Not everyone in your party needs to jump. Spectators are welcome to come along, watch the landings, and celebrate with you afterward.

Wondering whether you’re too old to go skydiving? Jumpers must be at least 18, but there’s no upper age limit. In fact, Alfred “Al” Blaschke made a record-setting tandem skydive at almost 107 years old! Everyone must still meet our weight, harness-fit, and other participation requirements.
