Key Takeaways
Skydiving video is the best way to remember and relive your first jump – the real-life experience goes by quickly! With the right clothing, secured hair and accessories, and a few simple camera tips, you can feel comfortable, look natural, and capture the full excitement of your tandem skydive.
Your tandem skydiving adventure is booked, and you’re about to do something most people only dream about. Now comes the next question: should you get the video?
We can’t think of a better way to capture an experience like this. A skydive goes by fast, and there is a lot happening from the moment you arrive to the second your feet touch the ground again. A skydiving video lets you relive it, share it, and prove to everyone that yes, you actually jumped out of a perfectly good airplane.
But maybe you’re also wondering: Am I going to look terrified? Will my cheeks be flapping? Is my hair going to be everywhere? Am I going to look ridiculous?
We get it. Personally, we think everyone looks awesome skydiving, because you are doing something awesome. But a little preparation can definitely help you look good in your skydiving video. Here’s what to wear, what to do, and what to remember so your video looks as epic as the experience feels.
Book Your Video Package
The number one regret we hear from first-time jumpers after they land is, “I should’ve gotten video.”
During your first skydive, your brain is processing a lot at once. Even if you remember the feeling, you may not remember the details.
At Skydive Palm Beach, our skydiving pics and video package is captured by a camera mounted on your instructor’s wrist. It is up close, personal, and focused on your reactions throughout the experience, from your nerves before your jump to your celebration after landing. Basically, it’s your own private skydiving photoshoot!

What to Wear for Your Skydiving Video
What you wear skydiving can affect both the comfort of your skydive and how you look on camera.
- Tops: Choose a fitted athletic shirt, T-shirt, or long-sleeve top. If the weather is cooler, a long-sleeve shirt with thumb holes can help keep your sleeves in place.
- Bottoms: Athletic leggings, joggers, or comfortable pants are usually a good choice. You want something that fits well under the tandem skydiving harness and lets you move easily.
- Shoes: Wear closed-toe, lace-up athletic shoes. No flip-flops, sandals, heels, cowboy boots, or anything that could come loose or snag on the gear.
- Colors: Bright or saturated colors tend to pop against the blue sky. Dark colors can also contrast well. White can disappear a bit on camera, and camouflage is not ideal against a skydiving backdrop. (Ironic, but true.)
- Fit: Form-fitting is better than loose and flowy. You don’t need anything fancy, but you do want clothing that stays in place. Loose clothing can flap around and become uncomfortable in 120 mph winds.
Hair, Accessories & Makeup Tips
These little details can make a big difference in how your video turns out.
- Hair: If you have long hair, tie it back. Braids, a low bun, or a secure ponytail helps keep your hair out of your face (and also out of your instructor’s face).
- Jewelry: Keep it simple. Dangling earrings, loose necklaces, bracelets, and anything sentimental should stay on the ground. High-speed wind can make jewelry slap around, break, or disappear into the sky entirely.
- Glasses: If you wear glasses, let your instructor know. Goggles can usually fit over them, but it’s best to plan ahead. Contacts may be the most comfortable option if you have them.
- Makeup: Think athletic, not full glam. Heavy eye makeup can run, and large false lashes may not love 120 mph winds. Waterproof mascara, light concealer, tinted moisturizer, and lip balm are usually plenty.
Your expression is the main event anyway.
How to Look Good During the Jump
The best skydiving videos are not the ones where someone looks perfectly polished. The ones where you can see the nerves, excitement, shock, and joy as the jump unfolds are best! If you’re wondering what to do with your body or which skydiving poses are ideal, keep it simple:
- Before the jump: Don’t try to act too cool. If you’re nervous, say it. If you’re excited, show it. Honest reactions make better footage.
- On the plane: Smile when the camera comes your way, wave, look out the window, and interact with your instructor. Over Palm Beach, you may see the coastline, the Intracoastal Waterway, and miles of South Florida below you, so take it in.
- During the exit: Follow your instructor’s instructions, keep your chin up, and look forward. Smile, scream, laugh, or let whatever reaction happens happen. Keep your hands on your harness and arch.
- In freefall: Smile bigger than you think you need to. A big smile tightens your face muscles against the wind and looks better than clenching your lips together. Keep your head up, look toward the horizon, and give the camera a quick interaction if you remember. Don’t look down as this will result in a video of the top of your head!
- Under canopy: Once the parachute opens, everything slows down. Look around, talk to your instructor, and share your natural reaction. These will be some of your favorite moments to watch.
- After landing: Don’t undersell it. “It was good” or “it was fine” does not make a very exciting ending. If you feel amazing, say it! If you can’t believe you just did that, say it loud and proud!
